STEVENSVILLE, Md.- The eastbound lanes of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge are back open after an overnight tractor-trailer fire closed the span overnight.

According to the Maryland Transportation Authority, clean-up crews cleared debris early Monday morning. MDTA officials said the tractor trailer and rig had to be removed separately. Crews then inspected the eastbound span for safety before reopening it.

According to the MDTA ,a vehicle fire on the bridge is the reason for heavy traffic on the eastbound side before crossing the bridge.

Traffic cameras showed backups for at least five miles Sunday night, with people getting out of their cars in some places on Route 50.

As of 7 a.m. Monday, the eastbound and westbound lanes were open with no delays in either direction.
