Posted: Updated:

WILLARDS, Md.– Authorities have ruled as accidental a Monday night fire that caused thousands of dollars in damage to a lumber mill in Wicomico County.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said the incident occurred shortly before 7:40 p.m. at a 16-foot by 30-foot pole building housing lumber mill equipment at Cropper Brothers Lumber Company at 7504 Main St. in Willards.

It took 35 firefighters from the Willards, Pittsville and Gumboro fire companies approximately half an hour to get the blaze under control.

There were no reported injuries. The fire caused more than $250,000 in damage, investigators said.

The investigation determined the fire started as the result of an electrical failure at an interior main electrical service panel, according to investigators, who said the structure has been deemed a total loss.
