19-year-old Breaks into Laurel Middle School

LAUREL, Del.- A 19-year-old was arrested at Laurel Middle School after he tried to steal a letterman jacket, rode a buffing machine down the hallway, got stuck in an elevator and then called 9-1-1 for help.

Laurel police said they were called to the middle school September 7 by 19-year-old Michael Claude, of Laurel. Police said they called an elevator maintenance service to open the elevator doors after Claude became stuck.

According to police, Claude told officers he was in the school riding a buffing machine down the hallways when he got stuck in the elevator. Police said the elevator could not be repaired until the beginning of next week.

Police said the 19-year-old also had a Laurel letterman jacket that did not belong to him.

Laurel police said Claude was charged with 3rd Degree Burglary, Criminal Mischief and Theft.

Police said Claude was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 3 and released with a $3,800 unsecured bond.
