Updated: School Bus Goes into Ditch in Easton

MARYDEL, Md.- Authorities say a bus belonging to Caroline County Public Schools sustained tens of thousands of dollars worth of damage after it caught on fire over the weekend.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said the fire was reported by a passing motorist 9 a.m. Sunday at 25719 Shults Road in Marydel. Responding firefighters from the Marydel Volunteer Fire Company got the fire under control within seven minutes. 

The fire caused an estimated $40,000 in damage to the bus. There were no reported injuries. 

Investigators determined the fire started in the engine compartment due to a mechanical failure.
