SALISBURY, Md. - Minds in Motion, a children's museum looking to open its doors in Salisbury, has kicked off its fundraising efforts.
"We will seek money in all different ways -- sponsorship, donations, basically grants will also be included," said Minds in Motion Vice-President Debra Giles.
The museum is currently hosting its first fundraising campaign called "Founding 50."
The first 50 people to donate $1,000 or more will receive special recognition in the museum once it opens.
9-year-old Leah Krigar is very excited about the prospect of a children's museum opening in Salisbury. She has already fundraised $500 from family and friends
"For my birthday I've been asking some people, just for my birthday, instead of a present to donate money," said Krigar.
Museum founders said their current plans include featuring 25 exhibits in the museum. The exhibits will cost an estimated $1.7 million.
Minds in Motion is a children's museum that "would simulate daily life skills, expose children to future occupations and provide an abundance of educational experiences," according to the museum's Facebook page.
"The multi-sensory exhibits in our museum would encourage children and their families to explore, discover, and create."
Organizers of the museum will also be hosting a black-tie gala fundraiser on Nov. 4. in Salisbury. Tickets are currently available for purchase.
Organizers said they are looking at a fall 2019 opening, dependent on the success of fundraising.
