SALISBURY, Md. - Since 2014, Perdue Stadium has gotten a series of upgrades on the field and in the stands.
After the final Delmarva Shorebirds game on Thursday, General Manager Chris Bitters said the work will begin to improve the fan experience this offseason.
"Projects that with the suites and the third level and things of that nature that we're updating that are on the list and now we're getting to those and finishing up some of the structural things that need to get done to make sure the facility is good and healthy for another 20 years of fan use," Bitters said.
The master plan renovations total $4.2 million which is split between Wicomico County and the state, including a portion from the Shorebirds. One of the big additions this offseason's upgrades is a 360 deck around the outfield.
"We feel like we've come a long way but this next year we're going to take those final steps to make this a great place for families to come and really enjoy their experience," Wicomico County Director of Recreation, Parks & Tourism Steve Miller said.
Previous improvements to the stadium include total field replacement, new seating and a new video scoreboard. Bitters says it's all ways to keep the stadium up to date.
"We're obviously really modernizing the stadium, things that are going to be needed today to keep the fan base that we have and then things we're going to need tomorrow to engage the fan base as fan bases evolve over decades different things happen," Bitters said.
The Shorebirds home opener for the 2019 season is scheduled for April 11th. The newly-released schedule includes 70 home games in Perdue Stadium next year.
