Little Heaven Intersection Set to Finish Construction Next Year

LITTLE HEAVEN, Del.- After heavy rainfall caused delays for construction during the summer and fall, the Delaware Department of Transportation says a major grade-separated intersection along Route 1 remains on track for completion in early 2019.

DelDOT spokesman C.R. McLeod said the project should be completed by that time next year, allowing people who travel along Route 1 to travel through Little Heaven without having to stop at an intersection along the busy roadway.

"We are in the home stretch of this project," he said.

However, many neighbors to the project have complained about noise issues and dirt brought by the wind onto their properties.

Stephane Merritt of Little Heaven said the construction has led to dirt and dust frequently polluting the air and affecting air quality for people like his mother.

"Every time she comes outside to walk the dog or even just coming outside, she sneezes all the time. It just irritates her allergies," he said.

McLeod said DelDOT and its contractors are aware of the complaints and takes them seriously while the final months of the project are finished.

"In fact, we've stopped construction out there previously to ensure that issues were addressed before construction continued," he said.
