DOVER, Del. -- A new exhibit in features illustrations painted by Delaware artists that were commissioned during World War I.
The Delaware National Guard’s American Illustration Collection opened Monday at the Delaware Public Archives in Dover.
The exhibit features a number of paintings commissioned for publications that were designed using first-hand accounts and news coverage of World War I.
State Archivist Stephen Marz said the exhibit offers people a chance to see important moments surround World War I -- like a meeting between the Pope and President Woodrow Wilson -- but also gain an understand for how rank-and-file soldiers participated in the war.
"You see the soldiers that fought. You see the victors. You see the vanquished and you get to see that expression," he said.
The exhibit will be open at the Delaware Public Archives for a few years, according to Marz.
