MILFORD, De-State officials gathered in Milford today to get an early glimpse at the new Bayhealth Sussex Campus.
It's not officially open, but is scheduled to welcome the public by early February.
Bayhealth says the new campus was built to address the growing population in the region.
"We have seen an uptick in the need and the demand for health services from our senior population, to our young adults, to persons who are suffering from the opioid epidemic," Lieutenant Governor Bethany Hall-Long said.
Long, along with Governor Carney and other officials said the opening of the new facility is exciting, and will be the cornerstone of Sussex County.
The facility spans over 400,000 square feet and it has been under construction for over a year.
The campus offers services like a new cancer center, a new trauma center, even 128 private rooms and bathrooms for patients.
They've also invested in a helipad will be at the top of the roof of the new hospital to help with emergency response.
Julianne Wysockido, medical director for the emergency department said the new facility is a great improvement from their other campuses.
"It's a much larger trauma base. The CAT scan is located much closer, and it's a much closer trip to the operating room, directly to the elevators or helipad as needed," she said.
Terry Murphy, President and CEO of Bayhealth said the campus is sure to bring job growth to the area.
"We employ about 3,700 employees between both campuses, and as part of this project we're adding 115 new jobs, but we also plan to grow."
The new campus sits on 169 acres of property and may expand in the future.
