DELAWARE- A Lewes engineer that works at Delaware's Department of Transportation was honored during National Engineers Week.
Scott Walls, a project manager of the Bridge Design section was named Delaware Engineering Society's 2019 Young Engineer of the Year award on Thursday.
According to DelDOT, Walls began his career with the company in 2012 as a project engineer in the same section as he is in now. Walls has been the lead designer for numerous replacement and rehabilitation projects working with both steel and concrete. DelDOT says Wall's current position is Supervising Engineer, in which he leads a small group of engineers and consultants from project initiation through project completion.
Walls grew up in Dover and graduated from Caesar Rodney in 2007. He later was to the University of Delaware, earning his Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering in 2011. Just last year he finished his Master's Degree at the same university also for Civil Engineering.
DelDOT also says he, "developed and manages a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) outreach program to support students learning STEM concepts throughout the state."
Secretary of Transportation Jennifer Cohan said, "We are very proud of Scott for receiving this recognition, and fortunate for his work and that of all our talented engineers who work to maintain and improve our infrastructure in Delaware."
