DOVER, Del. (AP)/WBOC)- Delaware State University officials are investigating alleged hazing after a crash that seriously injured four students.
University officials said Tuesday that the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity is prohibited from conducting gatherings, programs or recruitment activities at the school during the investigation. Officials also said that while completing this investigation into allegations of hazing and improper conduct, they are also issuing an "unequivocal statement to the entire campus community."
"We are wholly committed to creating a campus that is welcoming to all students and supporting them in their academic and student life throughout their college years," the university said. "Any action to the contrary will not be tolerated. To be clear, the unversity does not condone hazing or abusive conduct in any fashion, at any time. We are equally committed to thorough fact-finding, cooperation with all legal authorities, and an appropriate response to all of the affected parties."
The national director of the fraternity didn't immediately return a telephone message left at the group's headquarters in Philadelphia.
Delaware State Police say a sedan travelling southbound on State Route 1 on Saturday afternoon crossed the median, spun into the northbound lanes and was hit by a pickup truck.
The driver and front passenger of the sedan were critically injured. The two rear passengers were hospitalized in stable condition after the crash.
Relatives of the driver say he's on life support.
Delaware State University President Dr. Wilma Mishoe and Executive Vice President Dr. Tony Allen have released a statement in connection with a weekend crash involving four DSU students.
“Throughout the day we have continued to receive additional information concerning the accident our students were involved in on Saturday.
We have decided to conduct a thorough investigation into what we now know are allegations of hazing
and improper conduct in the membership intake processes of at least one Greek-letter organization on
campus. While completing this investigation, we have placed a hold on all activities for this organization
in particular, and are also issuing an unequivocal statement to the entire campus community:
We are wholly committed to creating a campus that is welcoming to all students and supporting them
in their academic and student life throughout their college years. Any action to the contrary will not
be tolerated. To be clear, the University does not condone hazing or abusive conduct in any fashion,
