DOVER, Del. (AP)- A 16-year-old Delaware girl has been offered $1.2 million in academic scholarships from more than a dozen universities and colleges. WBOC media partner Delaware State News reports that Angelica Malone graduated with honors last month from Early College High School at Delaware State University. Malone was homeschooled throughout middle school and started high school when she was 12. She recalls trying to hide her age from her peers. She says she once lost a baby tooth in class and was able to conceal the offending clue without anyone noticing. She says, "you couldn't see it unless I smiled really big." Malone is planning to attend Albright College in Reading, Pa., to study psychobiology this fall. She has already earned 44 college credits and will be a college sophomore when she starts.
As an unusually young college sophomore, Angelica may once again have to struggle to fit in. But this time, it’ll be a lack of a driver’s license that will give her away to her peers rather than losing a tooth.
“I’ll only have my learner’s permit still when I’m in college, so I guess I’ll have to try to make friends with someone who has a car,” she joked.
