Woodbridge's Haynes Passing Has Impact Beyond Woodbridge

Tributes of emotional support for the family and friends of Troy Haynes have been appearing on Twitter since news of his death became public. Delaware Senator (D) Chris Coons' tweet read "Today Annie and I are holding Troy's family, friends, and the entire Woodbridge and Sussex County Community in our thoughts and prayers. May we all remember his strength, celebrate his legacy, and always #FightLike4." At his Monday press conference, University of Delaware football coach Danny Rocco offered his condolences and ended the statement by saying "Fight Like 4" The hashtag became Haynes' slogan as he attempted to win a battle against kidney cancer. Haynes lost that battle on Sunday, he was 19 years old. Haynes wore number 4 as the starting quarterback for a Blue Raider program that won two state championships in three seasons, the first titles in school history. In a written statement, Woodbridge head football coach Jed Bell said, " We are deeply saddened by the passing of Troy. He was a special young man who brought an entire school, community, and state together through the toughest of times. Troy was well known and highly regarded as a great football player, but he was an even greater young man. He will be remembered and loved forever."  Haynes was diagnosed with the cancer this past spring.  He graduated high school in June. Bell said the school is planning to honor Haynes at the Oct. 4 home football game against Archmere.
