Nor'easter Causes Bethany Beach Erosion

BETHANY BEACH, Del. - The first Nor'easter of fall has taken a lot of the beach out of Bethany. On Friday waves could be seen coming all the way up to the dunes and Pennsylvania Avenue was completely flooded.

Mayor Lew Killmer says there's not much the town can do other than close flooded streets and wait for the water to recede.

"It's something we have to deal with," says Killmer. "We have the dunes to protect the community and without them the water would be out on the streets."

Kilmer says Bethany is not due for another beach replenishment until 2022, depending on funding.

"Hurricanes never hit directly on Delaware," says Killmer. "Nor'easters hit more often. This time of year they come and go."
