SNOW HILL, Md.- A years-long project to widen Route 113 in Maryland is almost complete as crews work on the final phase of construction from Public Landing Road to just north of Worcester Technical High School in Snow Hill.
The Maryland State Highway Administration said the goal is to have all four lanes of these last four miles open by the end of December.
One lane is open to traffic in each direction as crews complete final paving work on the last stretch of the project.
The entire project is widening all of Route 113 in Maryland, from Pocomoke City to Delaware, into a four-lane divided highway.
That is a 38-mile stretch of highway. Thirty-four miles have already been completed.
Drivers said construction has been a headache, but the updates will make for a safer drive.
"Even years ago, when it was a single lane, a lot of people got hurt on that road, so it's for the good. It just takes a lot of time. A lot of money, but it will be good for everything," said Elton Gray of Snow Hill.
Phase Four construction is estimated to cost $82 million.
SHA expects the entire project to be wrapped up by spring 2020, so features like striping, rumble strips, and landscaping can be added.
Construction is weather-dependent.
