Ellendale Woman Charged With Running Down Two People in Milford Walmart Parking Lot

MILFORD, Del.- Authorities say an Ellendale woman has been arrested for hitting and injuring two pedestrians at the Walmart store in Milford before leaving the scene.

According to Milford police, officers responded on Saturday to the parking lot of the Walmart on North DuPont Boulevard to a report of two people being struck by a vehicle. 

The victims reported that one of them had been in a crosswalk in the east side of the parking lot and the second being in the northeast side of the lot. 

The investigation revealed the suspect vehicle reportedly accelerated prior to striking both victims and failed to stop after striking the two, according to police. 

Both victims were transported to the Bayhealth Sussex Campus for treatment of what police describe as serious injuries. 

Neither victim is believed to have been known by the suspect, Kala I.Fluitt, 23, of Ellendale. 

The suspect vehicle was later located unoccupied in a parking lot nearby. 

Further investigation identified the driver as Fluitt, who was taken into custody on Monday at her home without incident. 

Fluitt has been charged with two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, Tampering With Physical Evidence, two counts of Leaving the Scene of a Collision Resulting in Injury, Reckless Driving, and Failure to Report an Collision Resulting in Injury. 

Fluitt was presented at the Justice of the Peace Court #7, where bail was set at $81,350 secured. 

Fluitt is scheduled to appear at the Kent County Court of Common Pleas on March 20 for a preliminary hearing. 

Fluitt has been committed to the custody of the Delaware Department of Correction and is currently being held at the Delores J. Baylor Women's Correctional Institution.
