DOVER, Del. --- The City of Dover has pulled permits for gatherings of more than 100+ in light of a state of emergency tied to the COVID-19 coronavirus that went into effect this week.

"Following the guidelines placed by the Governor's State of Emergency, for event gatherings of 100+ the City of Dover has pulled the permits for gatherings that fall into that category," the city wrote on its Facebook page.

According to the state of emergency, large gatherings are not explicitly prohibited but Gov. John Carney advised that event organizers "should review the potential risks and cancel all 'non-essential mass gatherings' of 100 people or more."

The Downtown Dover Partnership announced on Friday that the move meant its Saint Patrick's Day parade and marketplace scheduled for Mar. 21 would also be canceled and not rescheduled.
