SMYRNA, Del.- The Delaware Division of Public Health has announced two more likely positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases to six in the state.

According to officials, those two cases are linked to the University of Delaware community and are linked to the initial cases reported at UD.

The two patients are a woman older than 50 and a man older than 60. Both of them are self-quarantining and are from New Castle County.

“The additional cases involving individuals from the University of Delaware community are concerning, but we will monitor the individuals with COVID-19 and identify their close contacts,” said DPH Director Dr. Karyl Rattay in a statement. “DPH is working closely with the CDC, hospitals, clinicians, and other medical providers to proactively identify and respond to any possible cases of COVID-19. We will continue to keep the public fully informed as additional information becomes available.”

DPH epidemiologists are now contacting people close to these two new patients to provide them guidance and monitor them closely to see if they develop symptoms. Health officials say they'll update testing numbers later today.

Health officials encourage anyone at UD with questions to contact the university's call center at 302-831-1188 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The public can call the Division of Public Health’s Coronavirus Call Center at 1-866-408-1899, or 711 for those with hearing impairments, from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Or they can email DPHCall@delaware.gov.
