PITTSVILLE, Md.- Maryland State Police are investigating a serious crash that left one person dead and three others injured in Pittsville late Saturday afternoon.
Troopers said it happened just before 5 p.m. on eastbound Route 50 at the intersection of Sixty Foot Road.
According to police, a preliminary investigation revealed that a Toyota truck driven by William Sampson III was traveling westbound on Route 50 and turning onto Sixty Foot Road. Police said the Toyota had a steady green signal and was crossing over the Route 50 eastbound lanes when a GMC Yukon heading eastbound on Route 50 went through the red light and struck the Toyota.
Troopers said Sampson died in the crash.
The driver of the GMC Yukon, identified as John Minton, of Delmar, Md., along with two passengers, Martha Minton and a child, were taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury for treatment of what police described as minor non-life-threatening injuries.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team is continuing to investigate the crash.
