POCOMOKE CITY, Md.- Coast to coast the U.S. is seeing protests following the death of George Floyd who died while in police custody in Minneapolis.
On Wednesday evening, there was an event held in Pocomoke City to honor the life of Floyd.
The protest was nonviolent and was held at the Pocomoke City Police Department. Following that meeting, protesters then left the police department and walked to Cypress Park where a prayer and vigil was held for Floyd.
The protest was organized by locals, attended by a group called Indivisible Worcester Maryland, and also was organized in coordination with the Pocomoke Police Department. Police officers even walked alongside protesters.
Chief Lee Brumley said, "I'm participating with the march because I don't approve of the officer's actions and how he was handling the arrest; plus he was violating the policies of that department."
In a released statement, Brumley went on to assure the citizens of Pocomoke that his officers have received diversity training and will continue to receive training each year. He also said his officers will act professionally and show each and every citizen respect.
Event organizers say this protest was all about honoring Floyd and bringing people together.
Krystle Milbourne, an event organizer said, "I just wanted to show the world that not all police officers are bad. They're good and I just wanted the community to be together. We need to let kids know that police are there protect and serve."
Protesters wore masks, social distanced when it was possible, and refrained from bringing backpacks to the protest.
