REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.--The City of Rehoboth Beach commissioners have unanimously voted to modify the city's face mask requirements.
On Tuesday afternoon, commissioners voted to no longer require masks on the beach at all times nor while during strenuous exercise. Masks are still required to be worn while entering or exiting the beach. They are also required on the beach and during exercise when you're within six feet of someone who is not in your household. But masks are not required for those who are able to social distance while sunbathing or for those swimming.
Face coverings are still required on the boardwalk at all times and all public places including streets, sidewalks, parks and stores. Bicyclists over the age of 12 must wear masks while cycling in Rehoboth Beach. The city recommends people have masks on hand at all times in case they encounter others.
“Wearing masks has turned out to be very successful at halting the spread of COVID-19 if everyone is on board. It’s an incredibly simple, cheap, and effective intervention,” said Mayor Paul Kuhns. “It works for individuals, but more importantly for communities; wear a mask for the people you want to protect, wear a mask for the businesses you want to see open. Wearing a mask to protect ourselves and others is the right thing to do. Let’s show our commitment to our community and small businesses by masking up for each other.”
The relaxed restrictions take effect immediately. People under the age of 12 do not have to wear masks in town.
