HARRINGTON, Del.- The Delaware State Fair on Thursday kicked off its first day in Harrington with new precautions in place to protect against the spread of COVID-19.
The fair this year has avoided a fate seen by a number of events in Delaware that were canceled because of the pandemic, which saw its first recorded cases in March. A number of restrictions on every day life and businesses were put into place by Gov. John Carney, including limits on large gatherings.
However, the fair is operating in Harrington with requirements that face coverings be worn. An announcement played over the loud speakers during the event said fair attendees were required to wear face coverings at indoor locations and in outdoor areas where social distancing was not possible.
Throughout the day, many people could be seen wearing face coverings in outdoor areas aside from when they were eating or drinking. However, a number of people also opted not to wear face coverings, including at some indoor locations.
The Delaware State Fair runs through Aug. 1 at the state fairgrounds in Harrington.
