25-Year Prison Term for Parsonsburg Man in Armed Carjacking Case

Derrick Ryan Richardson

SALISBURY, Md.- A Parsonsburg man has been sentenced to 25 years behind bars after pleading guilty to one count of armed carjacking and two counts of attempted armed carjacking.

Derrick Ryan Richardson, 32, appeared Tuesday in the Circuit Court for Wicomico County, where Judge Matthew Maciarello sentenced him to prison and five years of supervised probation.

Prosecutors said that on the morning of Sept. 9, 2019, Richardson attempted to carjack two separate motor vehicles near his home. At his third attempt, Richardson successfully stopped a 2009 Chevrolet Impala, and then ordered the female driver out at gunpoint. After she got out of the car, Richardson entered the vehicle and drove away.

Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded and conducted an investigation that prosecutors said led to the recovery of crucial evidence, to include video footage of Richardson driving the stolen Impala.

Three days after the carjacking, the stolen Impala was recovered in the woods approximately 1,000 feet from Richardson’s home.
