SUSSEX COUNTY, Del.- A new license plate aims to help Delaware's most unique animal: the horseshoe crab.
The new $50 plate displays a marsh scene and the horseshoe crab. According to the Delaware Center for the Inland Bays (CIB), 70 percent of the plate proceeds go to them and the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary (PDE). Both organizations conduct scientific research and surveys in the Delaware Bay and the Delaware Inland Bays, which are critical habitats for horseshoe crabs and the shorebirds that rely on their eggs each spring.
Delawareans may purchase the plates at any DMV offices or online.
The CIB says The iconic lighthouse license plate, which also benefits the Center and PDE, is still available for purchase, as well.
