Delaware Budget Cuts Reach School Districts

Dover High School.

DOVER, De. - The Capital School District has announced changes to it's hybrid learning plan via Facebook late Wednesday that impact schedules for students grades 5th through 12th beginning Monday.

The district was set to bring back those students for hybrid learning; a mix of both in-person instruction and virtual learning. Now, the district has postponed that transition until January 4th.

Students in pre-kindergarten through 4th have already be participating in hybrid learning, and the district said that will continue as normal.

"The Capital School District Board of Education held an emergency meeting this evening and has amended the grades 5 to 12 learning plan that was to start on November 30th. The Board of Education has decided that the students in grades 5-12 will continue with Full Remote Learning effective immediately through Monday, January 4, 2021. Students in grades PK to 4 and special programs currently participating in Hybrid will continue using the current Hybrid model with some remote and in person instruction. KCCS mainsite will resume face to face instruction on December 3 as previously planned.

Again, there will be no At-School, In-Person Learning for students in grades 5 through 12 until Monday, January 4th, 2021.

All staff at Dover High and KCSILC are to report to the building November 30 unless otherwise directed by Human Resources. All staff at CMS/WHMS will work at the building by grade level with the established schedule unless otherwise directed by Human Resources. Teachers in grades 5 and 7 will work from the building Monday and Tuesday. Grades 6 and 8 will work at the building on Thursday/Friday. This starts November 30. All staff PK-12 will be provided the opportunity to work at the building or remotely on Wednesdays as this remains an asynchronous day.

As with all decisions during this pandemic, this one was not made lightly. Great thought and consideration was placed into the decision. As always, the Capital School District must continue to keep the safety of our students, families, and teachers at the forefront of our decision-making throughout this crisis. Thank you for listening this evening and please stay safe while enjoying your Thanksgiving holiday."
