SALISBURY, Md.- Authorities are investigating a late Sunday night fire that left a Salisbury home and a car in ruins.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said it happened shortly before 11:30 p.m. at a one-story home with attached garage located at 120 Lakeview Dr.
The Salisbury Fire Department responded to the fire and got it under control in an hour.
The fire caused an estimated $350,000 in damage to the structure and another $150,000 in damage to its contents. The fire destroyed a Corvette and heavily damaged a second one.
The homeowner was alerted to the fire by working smoke alarms in the home, which allowed him to escape without injury.
Deputy state fire marshals determined the fire started inside the garage but its cause remains under investigation.
The American Red Cross and friends are assisting the homeowner.
Theresa Young, the Executive Director of the American Red Cross of Delmarva says they're working to assist.
"The neighbors are helping the individual out, as is Red Cross and some other partners," Young said.
"It is a community that comes together towards recovery for anyone who's been through a disaster. So whether it's a single family fire, multi family fire or like Hurricane Isaias last year, we all pulled together to work together," she continued.
