Local band breakfast., along with belly dancers Roma and Luna Scura will take the stage during the 1st Saturday event in Downtown Salisbury.
The event, which will be held from 4-7 p.m. this Saturday, May 7 at the Government Office Building on North Division Street, is sponsored by both the City of Salisbury and Park & Flea.
The group breakfast. describes itself as “a movement. A coming together of all the friends and talents around us to create something that is original, genuine, and relevant. Our hope is to change the lives around us for the better and make a difference in our generation.”
The group’s keyboardist, Nate Williams, said, “This is the first time we are playing and the hope is that we play well, make new fans, meet new people, and establish a relationship with 1st Saturday.”
The band will play from 4- 7 p.m., but will take a half-hour break at 5:30 for Roma and Luna Scura to perform. The two local belly dancers have different styles. Luna is a classical Egyptian-style dancer, while Roma is a modern Gypsy tribal-style dancer.

In both May and June 1st Saturday events, the Salisbury Jaycees will sell beer and wine to help raise money for a variety of community projects. The alcohol will only be permitted in the street area and not in the spectator area. No outside alcohol is allowed in and any alcohol sold is not permitted outside the event.
“We feel the alcohol will be a positive addition to our event, an added convenience for our attendees, and a great partnership with the Jaycees, who will use the money they raise on our community,” said Sarah Rayne, co-chair of the 1st Saturday Committee.
Everyone who attends this event is being asked to bring a donation for the local based non-profit organization Operation We Care. This group sends care packages to our military and supports law enforcement and fire/EMS. A list of the most needed items can be found here. 1st Saturday will be collecting donations for Operation We Care through the rest of its 2016 season.
For its 2016 season, 1st Salisbury is hosting a different food truck each month. For the month of May, the food truck will be Rosenfeld’s Jewish Delicatessen. Rosenfeld’s, based out of Ocean City, Md., is a kosher-style, full-service Jewish deli. Restaurants in Downtown Salisbury will be open and will offer carry out options. Those attending are asked to dispose of their trash properly and to recycle.
The 1st Saturday Art Market has grown, so be on the lookout for new artists selling original art pieces. Joining them in the market will be Goatopia, which will be bringing by some cute furry friends.
The Art Institute & Gallery will host activities for children.If you plan to ride your bicycle to 1st Saturday, you can leave your bike with Bike-SBY, which will be offering a free valet service.
Limited edition 2016 1st Saturday T-shirts will be available for $10 each, and all proceeds will benefit 1st Saturday’s efforts to present free music events in Salisbury’s Downtown.
The new 1st Saturday bumper stickers and magnets are available and will be distributed to attendees at no cost.
1st Saturday’s mission is to provide free, family-friendly events for locals while also supporting local business, tourism growth, and community participation through music and festivities. The event is an all-volunteer effort, a downtown economic progress initiative, and a project of the Salisbury Arts & Entertainment District Committee.
