American political commentator, nationally syndicated columnist and radio host Ben Shapiro spoke on some of the top issues of the day during a recent appearance at Salisbury University.

The Salisbury University College Republicans recruited Shapiro to speak at SU on Monday, March 28 at the Perdue School of Business.

According to Tricia Garvey Smith, director of student activities at SU, the campus organization received support from the Young America’s Foundation as well as the college Appropriations Board.

Shapiro has been touring college campuses giving speeches for many years and Monday night’s event was the first stop on Shapiro’s 2016 YAF Lecture Tour.

During the event, Shapiro spoke about conservative approaches to such topics as white privilege, the Black Lives Matter campaign and the diversity of race vs. the diversity of ideas. After expressing his belief in the need for conservativism and freedom of speech on college campuses, Shapiro engaged in a Q&A  session with the audience and got into an argument over abortion.

To sum it up, Shapiro expressed his belief in the pro-life movement while one student expressed belief in the pro-choice movement, leading to a heated discussion.

Donald Trump’s Campaign Manager Charged with Battery

Ben Shapiro’s speech at Salisbury University isn’t the only reason he’s been in the news lately.

On Tuesday, March 28, Florida police charged Donald Trump‘s campaign manager with simple battery in connection with an incident earlier in the month involving reporter Michelle Fields.

On a surveillance video released by police, Corey Lewandoski, Trump’s top political aide, is seen grabbing Fields as she tried to ask Trump a question during a March 8 campaign event.

After examining the evidence, Florida police say probable cause existed to charge Lewandowski in the incident.

Fields worked for Breitbart News, a politically conservative American news and opinion website, at the time and has since resigned.

In March 2016, Shapiro, editor-at-large of Breitbart.com, resigned from his position as well, following the website’s lack of support for Fields in response to her alleged assault by Lewandoski.

Shapiro graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of California, Los Angeles with a bachelor of arts in political science in 2004 and graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School in 2007.

He has written six books, the first of which was 2004’s Brainwashed: How Universities Indoctrinate America’s Youth, written when he was just 17. He currently writes a column for Creators Syndicate and is editor-in-chief at The Daily Wire. He is the co-founder and former editor-in-chief of the media watchdog group TruthRevolt.

Trump Reaction

In a statement released Tuesday, the Trump campaign said Lewandowski “is absolutely innocent of this charge…He will enter a plea of not guilty and looks forward to his day in court,” said the statement. “He is completely confident that he will be exonerated.”

Trump went on Twitter calling Lewandowski “a very decent man.”

Lewandowski has retained a Florida attorney who said Tuesday there would be no further comment.

The charge, a first-degree misdemeanor, carries a potential sentence of up to one year in prison or up to a $1,000 fine, according to Florida statutes.
