Berlin, Maryland was once one of the largest producer and exporter of peaches.
The Harrison Family was responsible for planting thousands of peach trees in the area and those peaches were shipped around the country via the railways. Unfortunately, disease hit the crops and the peach trees were destroyed. Today, the town continues to celebrate the Harrison family and the peaches. The 11th Annual Berlin Peach Festival will be held Saturday, August 3, from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., on the grounds of the Calvin B. Taylor House Museum, 208 North Main Street. Admission is free. Rain date for the festival will be Sunday, August 4, from 11:00 until 4:00.. In honor of the festival, Jimmy and Lisa learn how to “lattice” peach pie.
