The Bethany Beach bandstand will feature 50 acts for the Summer Concert Series including new, returning, local and national acts.
Along with returning acts, there will be seven new bands on the roster, including local band Skinny Leg Pete, the Joseph Sisters out of Nashville and Washington D.C.’s La Unica Band.
According to Julie Malewski, Bethany Beach events director, the summer series will offer a diverse lineup for 2016, entertaining audiences of all ages every weekend throughout the summer.
“I’m really excited about the lineup this year,” Malewski said. “We base our scheduling off audience surveys at the end of each season.”
On Saturday, May 28, the seasons kicks off with the United States Navy Cruisers performing contemporary arrangements of pop, rock, jazz and standards. In total, there will be six military bands returning to Bethany including the Navy Sea Chanters,the Army Jazz Ambassadors and the 287th Army National Guard Concert Band.
On Saturday, June 4, the Seaside Craft Show will offer more than 100 juried fine craft vendors on the boardwalk, bandstand and downtown streets. During the event, the Joe Baione Jazz Trio will perform from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m.
On Friday, June 10, Sons of Pirates — a Jimmy Buffet/trop-rock-inspired beach band will perform as one of 13 tribute acts included in the summer lineup.
On June 12, a former bass player for Bad Company, Paul Cullen, will share his Tuscan-influenced acoustic music in a co-headlined evening with comedy singer-songwriter Todd Chappelle.
On Saturday, July 9, The Stickers from the ABC series “Nashville” and the Daytona 500 will return to the bandstand, followed by an opera performance by Gala with the Three Tenors on Sunday, July 24.
“Last season’s audiences got to experience a different musical genre each night of the weekend if they chose to,” Malewski said. “They were excited about that and wanted more of the same for this year.”
Wednesdays in July will again feature a Kids Club, with child-friendly entertainment on the bandstand and Rehoboth Children’s Theater performances in Town Hall. Carnival Night launches on July 6, complete with face-painters, Uncle Pete and a magic show by Dickens Parlor Theatre.
The Talent Show will be held on Friday, Aug. 19. That annual event showcases an array of local and visiting talent with no age restrictions.
