Camp possibilites

Going to summer camp can be one of the most exciting days or weeks of the year for many children.

However, finding a summer camp for children with diabetes can be somewhat of a challenge. DelmarvaLife’s Maxine Bentzel tells us about a camp in Maryland just for diabetic children called Camp Possibilities.

Due to the complexity of diabetes management, some children do not get the chance to go to summer camp. Camp Possibilities is a camp for children with diabetes between the ages of eight and 16. At Camp Possibilities, they offer swimming, fishing, arts and crafts projects, basketball, dance, a talent show, and other activities.

The camp is held at Camp Rambewood located in Darlington, Md. on 200 scenic acres of private property. Camp Possibilities has been held at this location since 2004. Camp Possibilities has over 70 volunteers who collectively give over 5,000 hours of their time to make camp happen each summer.

Camp dates for 2017 are from Sunday, July 23rd to Friday, July 28th. The cost of camp is $775 which is due by May 1, 2017.

There is also a family day event on April 8 from 10am-4 pm at Camp Possibilities. This is a day where families of children with diabetes can spend a day together and get to know each other. This is a free event.
