Mother’s Day is this coming weekend on Sunday, May 8. Earlier this month, the Delaware Association of American Mothers recognized some of the best mothers in Delaware.
Three moms in Delaware were recognized at the Governor’s House. Loretta Wootten from Milford was the winner of the 2016 Mother of the Year Award, Dr. Janet Trout was recognized as the 2016 Mother of Achievement, and Michelle Wall of Middletown received the 2016 Young Mother of the Year Award.
Mrs. Wootten was born in Milford and attended Milford High School. She is married to Wayne Wootten and has two daughters, Donna and Brenda. She served on the Kent County Chancery Court before retiring. Loretta then served seven years as the Clerk of Peace.

Each nominated mother is required to develop a portfolio including information about their family, their community involvement and volunteer work – in addition to acquiring several letters of recommendation.
In order to be nominated as Mother of the Year, the woman must have one or more children and embody traits highly regarded in mothers. She must display the ability to strengthen family relationships and exemplify the conduct spelled out by the Golden Rule. She should be active in the community and a positive influence on children and family. Mrs. Wootten says that she considers her two daughters her biggest achievement.
