Vadella

Raising three children can be challenging. Add in taking care of a 98-year-old grandmother and most couples would be overwhelmed.

Not Amy and Michael Vadella of Berlin, Md. In addition to those four dependants, the Vadella’s welcomed a coworker’s family with five children into their home after a fire destroyed their house and everything inside.

“In all of my years of education, I have never seen a couple who looks out for others more than these two,” said Annette Wallace, Amy’s coworker and principal at Pocomoke High School.

Having 12 people under one roof is a challenge, but the Vadella’s did not stop there. They also provided the family with food and clothing. This kind of altruism is exactly what Jefferson Awards seek to recognize.

“It was just a natural thing,” Michael Vadella said. “How could you not?”
