For 90 years, families around Delmarva have been able spend a few summer nights each year at the Hebron Fireman’s Carnival.
Kirby Travers, who is on the Board of Directors for the Hebron Volunteer Fire Department and operates the bingo stand at the carnival, says the carnival is great for the town of Hebron as it offers residents food, fun and entertainment right in their backyard. He says that without the proceeds from this event, the fire department would cease to exist.

There is no shortage of food at the Hebron Carnival, as you can find everything from cotton candy, popcorn, funnel cakes and candied apples to hamburgers, hot dogs, crab cakes, soft crabs, pizza and chicken wings. However, Travers says people flock to the carnival for their famous oyster fritters, which are made by the same cooks each year from a secret family recipe.
Rides are also a top attraction and the Hebron Carnival has them for all ages. Travers says they have rides, like the carousel, for families with young children, as well as a roller coaster and scrambler for older riders.
For people who would rather keep their feet on the ground, there plenty of games to enjoy, and even bingo for the adults.
Travers says that all the fun would not be possible without the overwhelming help of the community, members of the Hebron Volunteer Fire Department and carnival volunteers.
The Hebron Fireman’s Carnival will be open July 4-9 from 5-9 p.m. with fireworks at 9:30 p.m. on the fourth. For more more information, visit www.hebronvfd.com.
