The Freeman Stage

If you are looking for a beautiful summer evening that includes drinks, great company, a gorgeous back drop and lots of lights, look no further than Locals Under the Lights at The Freeman Stage.

The Freeman Stage is a program of the Joshua Freeman Foundation, which was established in 2007  after Josh Freeman was tragically killed in a helicopter accident. Doug Phillips, Creative and Digital Media Manager at the Freeman Stage, says “Mr. and Mrs. Freeman have always been big supporters of the arts and wanted to create this organization in order to bring people in their community together.”

Doug says the Freeman Stage is an open arts venue that was designed to be both comfortable and casual and was constructed with community theater and local bands in mind. He says he never expected the stage to host national recording artists, but after nine seasons, acts like Pat Benatar and The Beach Boys, are gracing the stage.

One of the Freeman Stage’s biggest events is Locals Under the Lights, a two night affair that Alyson Cunningham, Communication and PR Manager at the Freeman Stage, says is a great opportunity for local performers and up and coming artists to share their talent and the stage with some of musics greats.

The Freeman Stage has hosted everyone from Pat Benatar, Melissa Etheridge and The Beach Boys, to Darius Rucker, Cheryl Crow and Yo-Yo Ma. Doug says the venue usually draws large crowds credits this to the amazing performers, relaxed atmosphere and the fact that there is little to no cost to concert goers.

The audience isn’t the only group of people that get to have a great time, as Doug says the event is a perfect opportunity for local performers to share the spotlight with big names at a large venue.

The second Locals Under the Lights show of this year will take place August 25 at 7 p.m.. Admission is free and attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets.
