The Delmar Caboose, located on Railroad Avenue has tons of history behind it.

It’s articles like these that fuel the passion behind the members of the Delmar Historical Society. Former society president Chris Walter says they’ve put quite the effort into restoring buildings and embracing the history all over Delmar.

Chris says since the Delmar caboose was purchased by George Truitt and Grover Lecates, it took a number of people to originally restore it. I got a chance to get a tour of the caboose with current society president Patsy Bridges, who knew pretty much everything about it. The Caboose looked great for it’s age, but Chris Walter says that it is in need of a lot of repairs.

“Right now we need to,” says Chris. “There’s a lot of wood that needs to be replaced, there’s repainting inside and we’d also like to redo the steps front and back and then if we get enough money we’d like to put a canopy over the top.”

He also says they hope to raise enough money to repair it in time for next years Heritage Festival. The society members say preserving this article is important because it is a constant reminder of all the time and love that has already been given to the town over the years.
