We’re surrounded by many pieces of art.
Have you ever thought about the artist behind the art? We have some very talented artists right here on Delmarva. Some artists and the director of Salvation Army Creative Hearts Program join us in the studio today.
Christy Cugno, director of creative services, and artists Sarah Bosco and Geraldine Davis join us, alone with Alex Kotanides, owner of Pat’s Pizza. Christy says the Creative Hearts Program started in 2007 with one individual who enjoyed sketching. Now, they have over 15 artists who paint throughout the week in between doing their other activities.
Sarah says she has learned so much from the art teachers with using different colors like acrylics and water colors. Geraldine tells us that the paintings they make, they can turn into cards to sell.
Their program is dedicated to helping individuals with developmental disabilities become an integral part of their community.
Alex says the art open houses began a few years ago when he wanted to hang art on the wall in a new location. He said he did not want to get just regular paintings, so he connected with the program and hung the art on the walls. People then started purchasing the art so they started this event.
They will be holding their Third Annual Art Open House at Pat’s Pizza in Lewes on Nov. 9 from 4 pm-7 pm where you can purchase some of their artwork.
