What a spectacular video from the International Space Station!   In this Vine video posted to the space station’s account, the aurora borealis glows over the northern hemisphere as the space station flies up the East coast of the United States… and the sun rises over Greenland.   And what is that down there, below… easily recognizable in the beginning?  None other than a sleeping Delmarva penninsula.  Gorgeous!

Astronaut Barry “Butch” Wilmore posted the video on Feb 4th from 250 miles above the earth… at 17,000 miles per hour… and it’s not even blurry.

Can you find Delmarva in this photo?

If you’re having trouble spotting Delmarva as the video plays, this map will help your eye see the key landmarks.  First comes Delmarva, with the tail extending into the Chesapeake Bay.  Rt 13 almost looks like the western border of Delaware.   As the video tracks up the coast, you then see Cape May and New Jersey, and then within moments we’re past Long Island, and we’ve arrived at the iconic “arm” of Cape Cod.   It’s surreal how fast entire states fly by at 17,000 mph… before we know it… we’re over Nova Scotia.
