When the kids are in the pool, you are very careful to make sure they stay safe because drowning is a very real possibility and happens way too often.

Drowning:

  • 10 people drown daily
  • 1 in 5 people are 14 and younger
  •  Ages 1 to 4 highest drowning rates
  • 80% are males

You would hope to be able to recognize if someone is having trouble in the water. Sometimes you can tell, but other times drowning is very silent. Did you know there is also another drowning danger that is outside of the water? It is called dry downing and the dangers are there, even hours after leaving the water.

How Dry Drowning happens:

  • Accidentally inhales water
  • Just takes a few teaspoons
  • Lungs get irritated and secrete fluid
  • Drown in body’s own fluid

Symptoms:

  • Sleepiness
  • Change in behavior
  • Throwing up

Doctors say if you see any of these signs, it is important you get to the emergency room.
