Sean Streicher joins Joe Hopple at the Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Co. to hear about their upcoming event, EMS Day.
EMS week celebrates all the EMS providers across the country. People can expect displays from new ambulances, old ambulances, helicopters, paramedics, police, and more. Exhibitors include area EMS units and there will be a rescue helicopter demo.
Sean learns about how important CPR is and two ways EMS providers can perform this life-saving task. The Lucas CPR device is a battery powered device that does CPR on the patient for the EMS provider. Sean also learns about Take 10 CPR and the steps you need to take when someone may need CPR.
Joe tells Sean the two steps you need to take:
- Call 9-1-1
- Push hard and fast on the center of the chest
Joe says a good beat to remember is ‘Staying Alive‘ while you compress as hard and as fast as you can. Joe says if you do those steps until EMS arrives, you improve people’s survival rates by 300-400%.
