If you’re a parent who has a child in braces, you’d probably agree that you don’t want something as simple as a bite into a piece of candy to misalign all of the metal.

With Easter coming up, that is a real concern. Dr. James Crouse of The Brace Place in Salisbury joins us in the studio to talk about the damage candy can do to braces.

Dr. Crouse says if you bite into something hard or something sticky with braces, it could detach the bracket from the tooth. Dr. Crouse isn’t saying to not have any candy at all, but to avoid hard, crunchy, and sticky. He says to avoid caramel and taffy.

Dr. Crouse also talks about how excessive amounts of sugar is not good for your teeth because it could cause cavities.
