There are about 2.7 million nurses in the U.S. who take care of us when we are hurt or ill. Robyn Coughenour, Director of Clinical Operations at Peninsula Home Care, says the specialty of home care nursing is that they provide care in someone’s home.
Nancy Bagwell, Maryland Branch Director at Peninsula Home Care, says the home care nurses have to reach outside the walls and think about the whole person. Home care nurses have to work with the hospitals, physicians, surgeons, pharmacy, and sometimes spiritual leaders.
In honor of nurses week, several field nurses were nominated by their peers and then each branch of Peninsula Home Care elected a nurse of the year. The nurses were judged by how they represented their profession, what they do in the community, and how they continue to evolve in their profession.
Nurses of the Year:

PHC Salisbury – Christine Yingling, 18 years experience
PHC Seaford – Gena Hammond, 18 years experience
