Just because you’re retired doesn’t mean you can’t go out and learn something new.

Dott Wade Truitt and Ann Brittingham Suthowski came to represent the Institute for Retired Persons, a program affiliated with Salisbury University where members or spectators can come learn about all walks of life.

The IRP Program Committee arranges a speaker for each meeting. Speakers include regional business and civic leaders, SU faculty members, and others, who share their expertise (sometimes outside the bounds of their specific discipline) and life experiences. Lectures are informative, fascinating and entertaining.

Suthowski said that their next meeting will include one of our own, Chief Meteorologist, Dan Satterfield, to discuss some interesting weather topics.

Some of the other upcoming presentations include Sylvia Bradley, from West side Historical Society, and a gentleman from NASA to discuss the rocket program on Wallops Island, said Suthowski.

“Our programs are very diverse,” said Suthowski.

Truitt explained that to join, all you need to do is come. There is a small fee of $30 a year to be officially a member, but if a topic interests you, feel free to check it out before you commit.

“If you come mid-semester, the dues are only $15, and we always have something entertaining on the schedule,” said truitt.

Suthowski adds that IRP also has clubs involved that meet outside of the members weekly schedule, and they are all free with membership.

The IRP is meets once a week on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. at the MAC Center on Snow Hill Rd.
