About 2.2 million people in the United States have epilepsy – many of them children.
However, we’re not focusing on the disease itself. We’re talking about how author Shawnee Walker is using her son’s diagnosis to educate other children.
Shawnee’s son had his first seizure when he was 1-year-old. He was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2014. Shawnee had a lot of questions following her son’s diagnosis, so she did a lot of research.
When her son had a seizure during his day at school, the staff helped out, but his classmates were confused. Therefore, Shawnee decided to write a book to help kids understand epilepsy and what to do if their classmate is having a seizure.
