Medjacking is someone trying to hack into a person’s medical device and trying to retrieve their medical records.
College Professor, Dr. David Armstrong, believes that teaming up with U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security can prevent future attacks on medical technology put into patients.
Medical technology like insulin pumps and pacemakers are at risk for hacking.
Dr. David Armstrong believes there are two reasons why someone would want to hack a person’s medical devices:
- for narcissistic reasons
- for money/identity theft
He also says that a person’s medical information is worth 20 to 30 times as much as their credit card information on the black market.
Experts say that these items are at risk for Medjacking:
- X-ray equipment
- PET &CT Scans, MRI Machines
- Infusion Pumps, Lasers, Lasik
- Heart& Lung Dialysis
Experts are working on security for medical devices.
