There was a plenty to see and do at the Seaford Volunteer Fire Department‘s 24th annual Toy and Train Show held Saturday, Feb. 25.

The event featured dozens of vendors selling a large variety of model trains and toys on both floors of the fire hall located at 302 E. King St. in Seaford, Delaware.

Ron Marvel, a Seaford VFD spokesman, said before the show that “it’s definitely a worthwhile event if you are looking for toy trains.”

And he was right! It could be difficult finding parking outside the fire house with many people having to park several streets away. But once inside the fire hall, the parking challenges were immediately forgotten as attenders immediately entered toy train heaven.

For those longing for the large-sized Lionel trains of their youth, several vendors had a large assortment of both new and used Lionel, MTH and other O gauge trains and accessories for sale.  But people who model other scales weren’t left out, however. The smaller HO scale (think Half-O) had about an equal representation as O gauge at the show. A few vendors also offered American Flyer (S scale) trains while a handful of others had diminutive N scale items for sale.

But this wasn’t just a dealers’ bourse. The show also featured both O gauge and HO scale train layouts on both the first and second floors of the fire hall, which were a hit for both children and adults alike.

In addition to trains, several vendors sold collectible toys, including John Deere and other farm toys.

The fire department’s ladies auxilary stayed busy during the show cooking up both breakfast and lunch foods for sale. Proceeds from the annual event go toward upkeep and maintenance for the Seaford fire house as well as the engines and equipment the department needs to protect the community.
