We talk a lot about the opioid crisis that’s happening across the country and right here on Delmarva.

Over two million Americans are estimated to have a problem with opioids and that’s why services to treat people facing drug addiction are expanding on Delmarva. The Director of Operations at Chesapeake Treatment Services, Melissa Bishop, joins us in the studio to talk about services they offer to help those with addictions.

Melissa says this epidemic touches all walks of life.

“There isn’t anyone who is immune to becoming addicted to opioids. It can be your neighbor, a mother, a lawyer, a doctor,” Melissa says. “Anyone can end up in this place of addiction.”

Chesapeake Treatment Services provides individual and group counseling, as well as medication to help with the withdrawal and physical effects that opioids do to the body.

Chesapeake Treatment Services is expanding as the epidemic is expanding. They have a program in Easton and Salisbury and are opening a new program in Ocean City soon.

Melissa has a message for those who are addicted:

“They are more than their addiction. They can be the person they want to be again with the help of our services,” Melissa says.
