It’s also the time of year when many people break out their trailers, whether it’s a boat trailer or one used to haul equipment, you want to make sure your trailer is in good condition before you hit the road.
Sean stopped by Creightons Trailer Sales in Mardela Springs to find out a little more about seasonal trailer maintenance.
Chuck Creighton, owner of Creighton’s Trailer Sales, says this is their busy season. He says checking for proper inflation on your tires is very important and the first step.
The next step would be to check your turn signals and brake lights. Chuck says the last step would be to make sure your safety chains and coupler where you hook the trailer to your vehicle is in working order.
“You should service your trailer once a year,” Chuck says. “Having the barrings repacked, brakes adjusted, everything checked out. It’s a good idea to do that once a year then you won’t have any problems on the road when you’re using your trailer.”
Chuck also says if you have an enclosed trailer with a door to be sure to check your door latches and make sure they are in working order. For your boat trailers, it is important to check your rollers also.
Chuck says having your trailer inspected by a qualified technician could help you find problems coming before they come or get worse.
