DDS-MELVIN

New technology has made dental procedures less invasive, and less painful.

Just ask Melvin Jenkins of Salisbury. For most of his adult life he has tried not to draw attention to his mouth because he was missing several teeth.

I was always ashamed when I looked in the mirror, says Jenkins.  My self esteem was low.

Now, he has a full set of teeth thanks to Dr. Joseph Harmon of Delmarva Dental Services.  Dr. Harmon fitted Jenkins with dentures held in place by dental implants. The process of putting dental implants in a patient’s gums is done with precision thanks to 3-D images of the mouth.

The 3-D images allowed us to, not only view the bone in the patient in 3-D, but it allowed us to have programs that virtually allow us to put the implants in, then turn them and position them virtually before we do the implant in the patient, Dr. Harmon says.

Dr. Harmon said when it comes time to put the implants in the gum, he knows exactly where they can be inserted without hitting a nerve. That makes the procedure less invasive and less painful.
