A doula is a woman experienced in childbirth who provides advice, information, emotional support, and physical comfort to a mother before, during, and just after childbirth.

Krista Brooks, CEO and founder of Eastern Shore Doulas, tells us all about how beneficial a doula can be for an expecting mother.

Krista talks about how a doula can help a mother with her birth wishes. Doulas also can assist the family after the child is born.

There are postpartum doulas who help make meals, help with breast feeding, and watch the baby when you are sleeping.

Krista also talks about how a doula can help you encapsulate the placenta.

“We will come to your hospital or to your home and get the placenta and we steam that with ginger and lemon and we dehydrate it. And then we grind it into a powder and put it into pills,” Krista says. “Women said it helps them with postpartum depression, milk supply, gives them energy. It just gives your body that extra ‘umph’ you need in the postpartum days.”

Krista says there are many benefits for the mother by having a placenta encapsulation.

She says a doula is there to help you and your spouse and to make your birth what you want.
